A Re-Introduction
Because Aurora has welcomed many new faces to our readership and client list over the past year or so, it's a good time to take a step back and reintroduce ourselves to old clients and start with a refresher for the newcomers. In addition to the outstanding financial planning services offered by our financial advisors, clients of Aurora gain access to asset and portfolio management through Aurora Asset Management. While we have a distinct style, our aim is to find the right solution for all clients through a variety of options.
Who We Aren't
We aren't trendy. We do not chase fads. We are not high frequency traders. We do not speculate. We don't attempt to mirror what the market or what anyone else is doing. At times, this may seem old-fashioned, but we take seriously our duty to invest client assets with prudence and care as if they were our own.
Who We Are
The Team
Aurora Asset Management is a two-person team dedicated to investing in a way that helps clients reach their long-term goals. This team is based out of Indianapolis in the Fountain Square area.
Austin Crites (writing in the 3rd person here), is the Chief Investment Officer and the portfolio manager for the firm's equity portfolios. He earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2015 and has 18 years of investment experience. Austin graduated from Marian University in 2008 with a degree in Economics. He has been with Aurora since 2020 and lives in Indianapolis with his wife (Kundai) and two children (Tatenda and Nyasha).
Rishabh Goyal is a recent addition to the team after graduating from St. Olaf College with degrees in Quantitative Economics and Mathematics. Rishabh is an Associate Portfolio Manager with Aurora Asset Management, with responsibilities in areas such as investment research, portfolio management, and trading.
What We Do
We are different. Our personal accounts are invested in the same portfolios offered to clients. We build goal-oriented portfolios to help improve planning-oriented outcomes. Our 3 equity portfolios are designed with the goal in mind (income, accumulation, or aspirational). All these portfolios share a basic, common-sense philosophy. We invest in securities with the intent of owning them for the long term. We want to own businesses (stocks are a partial claim on the equity of a business) that are managed by honest and competent people. We want to own businesses that have sustainable competitive advantages that we can understand. We want to purchase investments at a discount to fair value to improve the odds of favorable investment returns. And we want to do this in a way that results in a portfolio of companies whose success or failure is dependent on a wide variety of factors so as to spread the risk taken with each individual investment. More information on our investment philosophy can be found here.
What to Expect
Our investment portfolios will often perform very differently than the market. This is especially true for a given month, quarter, or year. Sometimes this will be a good thing and sometimes we may look silly, but we don't allow that to distract us from helping achieve your long-term goals. We believe in and remain committed to our philosophy and approach because it is fundamentally sound. We post regular updates at www.auroramgt.com.
While we believe our investment approach is well suited to achieve client outcomes, we recognize that some people prefer a more aggressive approach. If this is you, we have ETF portfolio options to accommodate.
